Job Hunting - Job Networking

Networking can be essential when you are job hunting. It is not what you know but who you know which so often counts in this world. Often it is a friend of a friend of a friend who can provide that crucial introduction. Their contact details could be invaluable. Asking for a contact's advice rather than for a job is the most productive way forward.

If you are looking for a new job or just checking out your options there are many good sources

These can include:

  • colleagues
  • ex-colleagues
  • your managers
  • suppliers
  • competitors
  • fellow course attendees
  • professional association
  • neighbours
  • friends - and each of them will have a list of contacts.

Net working is not only useful when you are in business, it is also excellent for when you are looking to diversify or to change careers. When you have continued to keep up with changes in your industry or the industry/ work you would like to move into it shows you have commitment to the job.
